Graveside services and interment for Harry Altergott, 78, were held June 1, 1999, in the Prairie Rest Cemetery at Guernsey, with Rev. Tom Strock, of the First Baptist Church of Lusk, officiating and the military graveside rites by the Lake Guernsey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4471.

Mr. Altergott, a resident of Wheatland, died May 25, 1999, at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

Harry was born June 16, 1920, in Windsor, Colo., the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Lind) Altergott. He was reared and educated in Windsor.

After graduating from high school, he married Flora Maser on March 9, 1941, in Colorado; they were divorced in 1985.

He entered the United States Army on April 16, 1945, and was discharged April 6, 1946, for medical reasons. Harry returned to farming and ranching, selling his share of the family farm to his brother Jake, then buying his own farm in Windsor.

During the 1960's, he worked as an order cattle buyer for about 10 years, and then bought a ranch in Yuma, Colorado.

In 1985 he moved to Wheatland and bought a ranch east of town, running yearlings and order buying. In 1991 he bought a home in town, due to his health.

On September 8, 1997, he married Betty Jean (Nelson) Aldrich, his companion of several years, in Lusk.

Harry loved horses and cattle. He was a member of the Colorado Cattlemen's Association for seven years and his church was wherever God led him; he said religion is a personal thing.

He is survived by his wife of Wheatland; two daughters, Margie and husband Jerry Butts of Fort Collins, Colo., and Elaine Altergott of Ault, Colo.; three sisters, Maurie Winder and Katherine Rutz , both of Windsor, and Ruth Midcap of Wiggins, Colo.; three grandchildren, Jason, Lindsey and Kevin Butts of Fort Collins; and ex-wife Flora Altergott of Ault.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Altergott and Bertha Weideman, and a brother, Jake Altergott.

Serving as pallbearers were Tommy Bates, Brad Lambert, Ray Morris, Tim Robertson, Tim O'Connor, Mike Pexton, Eddie Weideman and Gaylan Rice.
