Mr. Geo. K. Gluyas, an old and respected citizen of Napa valley, died at his home near St. Helena last Saturday. Mr. Gluyas had been ill for some time, and his death was not unexpected.
Deceased was a native of Cornwall, England, aged 75 years.
He leaves a wife and several children. Mrs. J.M. Thompson of this city was one of his daughters as was the late Mrs. B.C. Hartson.
The remains were taken to Oakland, and interred in Mountain View Cemetery yesterday.
Mr. Gluyas was one of the prominent citizens of the State, and was greatly esteemed by all who knew him. He was for many years connected with the Mechanics' Institute of San Francisco, and a special meeting of the Trustees of that institution was held last Monday evening to take action regarding his death. P.B. Cornwall, President of the Institute, gave an interesting account of Mr. Gluyas' long connection with the Mechanics' Institute. He was Chairman of the first meeting held for organization in 1854. He was afterwards chosen President in 1867, and till his death was an active worker and firm friend of the Institute.
On motion it was resolved that a letter of condolence rand suitable resolutions of respect be prepared and forwarded to the family, and that the flags of the Institute and the Pavillion be placed at half-mast until after the funeral.
