Norma Briggs Severson, 83, of Midland, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, 2016 at Pinecrest Farms. She was born Nov. 4, 1932 in Harrison, the daughter of John and Iva (Reynolds) Briggs. Norma spent her early years in Midland, but graduated from Harrison High School as Salutatorian in 1950. On Sept. 24, 1960 she married John A. Severson. She was a long-standing member of the Midland First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed the holidays and decorated her home during nearly all of them. Norma was very patriotic, enjoyed traveling and had visited nearly every state. While traveling, she would pass time by crocheting. One of her favorite activities was reading, including her Bible. She also loved imparting her youth and life lessons to her grandchildren.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Shari (Robert) Fosdick of Midland; grandchildren, Jennifer Balcirak, Joshua, Nicholas, Benjamin, Nathanael, Gabriel and Rebekah Fosdick; son-in-law, Michael (Sue) Balcirak; sister, Kay Croisant; and sister-in-law, Betty (Duane) Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughter, Carla Balcirak; and grandson, L. Lee Fosdick.
Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016 at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler Street. The Rev. Jung Eun Yum of the First United Methodist Church will officiate, with private burial at Homer Cemetery. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Midland First United Methodist Church or the donor's favorite charity.
