Roland B. Peachee age 99 of Carson City passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. Roland was born to George and Lissie Peachee on May 5, 1916 in Daviess County Indiana.

At age18 Roland joined the US Navy on October 17, 1934 and served on the USS Maryland, BB 46 for six years. He was transferred to the USS Rigel (AR-11), a repair ship with the ability to repair damaged ship above and below the water line. The 1st Class Ship’s cook was cutting meat on the Rigel’s deck on December 7, 1941 at 07:55 hours when Pearl Harbor was suddenly attached by planes with a “red meatball” on their wings. One Japanese pilot flew so close, Roland saw him smile after his bomb missed the Rigel with a huge spray of sea water.

As a Pearl Harbor Survivor, he was an active member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors of Northern Nevada. He served five terms as President. He and his fellow Pearl Harbor Survivors lobbied and succeeded to have a Pearl Harbor Veteran Nevada license plate.

Roland whisked Evelyn to Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands where they were married in January 1983 for 33 years of magic. Each was a blessing to the other.

Roland is survived by his wife Evelyn and her son, Larry Troglin. Roland touched the lives of everyone he met.

There will be a viewing on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Walton’s Funeral Homes 1281 N. Roop Street Carson City.
