Born in Cliffside Park, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Clara (Hauser) Frei. Having lived in Brooklyn, NY, and Newton Twp. for many years, Claire resided at Lehigh Commons assisted living community, Macungie, for the past four years.
Claire was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked for many years at the rectory of Our Lady of the Snows Roman Catholic Church, Clarks Summit, and was active in its Women's Guild and staff of the Lazarus Room. Claire enjoyed working in the ticket booth at the annual parish festival. Her devotion to the Blessed Mother and her son through church activities was a vital part of Claire's life for many years.
Claire is survived by two daughters, Dolores M. Spalazzi, wife of Ronald, of Center Valley; and Carol A. Di Muccio, wife of Richard, of Harrisburg; two sons, Richard G., husband of Tracy, Allentown; and William J., husband of Vicki, Camden, Del.; grandchildren, Ronald Spalazzi Jr., Jeffrey Spalazzi, Eric Maltese, Alissa Maltese and Olivia Riccio; and six great-grandchildren, Gianna, Thomas, Jacob, Carl, Alyvia and Cameron; and step-great-grandchildren, Raymond and Alex.
In addition to her husband and parents, Claire was preceded in death by brothers, Jacob and Adolf Frei; and sisters, Rose Zimmerman and Ida Abler.
Friends may call Tues, Dec. 29, from 5-9pm, and Wed, Dec. 30, from 8:30-9:30am, at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at the Church of St. Benedict, Newton Ransom Boulevard, at 10. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, c/o son Richard, or to St. Joseph's Center, Scranton, c/o the facility.
