Lawrence B. Absher 81, of Marion, died at 7:30 am Friday, June 25, 1993 at home. Services will be in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with burial in Herrin City Cemetery. Mr. Absher worked for Cline-Vick Store from 1929 to 1940 and then was a Metropolitan Life Agent. He was a member of VFW, American Legion and was a Navy veteran of World War II. In 1947 he became the first World War II veteran to serve as commander of VFW Post 1301.
He was born November 2, 1911 in Absher to Arthur and Fannie Black Absher. He married Catherine April 23, 1936 in Herrin and she died February 1, 1988. His parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters also preceded him in death.
