Educator. First Dean of Women at Howard University, founder of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, and early Student Affairs professional and founder of professional associations for student affairs workers. She was also a tennis champion, and was the first African-American woman to win a major sports title. A champion of Black and women students in higher education, she also worked for the dignity and educational advancement of all people.
