Surviving Velma is one daughter Darlene Pennington; one son Tom Staggs; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters Rose Peach and Loretta Fenn; brother Jim Hyatt; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Alice Hyatt; brothers Robert Hyatt and Bernard Hyatt; sister Helen Staggs; nephew Eddie Staggs; niece Peggy Brown; and her aunt Mary Kindall.
Velma graduated from Canyonville High School in 1950. She met and married Floyd Staggs in October 1950. She gave birth to daughter Darlene and son Tom. She divorced Floyd and later married Jack Fromong in 1971. Velma was a very sweet, caring, loving, and talented person.
Velma enjoyed crocheting and needlework. She made many beautiful doilies, bedspreads, and table toppers. She was a professional crocheter.
There will be a viewing at Mountain View Funeral Home, 428 N. Old Pacific Hwy. Myrtle Creek, OR at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. A family gathering will follow at 1 p.m. at the Hawthorne Gardens Cemetery, 2500 Upper River Rd., Grants Pass, OR.
