Mr. Barker, widower of Mae Weathers Barker, died early Saturday morning in the Southern Manor Nursing Center in Barnwell. Born April 4, 1899 in Seigling, he was a son of the late William Owen Barker and Ida Strange Barker. Mr. Barker was a member of First Baptist Church of Allendale where he served as a deacon. He was a farmer. He was a former member of the Hospital Board and the Soil Conservation Board. Mr. Barker was first married to the late Maude King Barker.
Surviving are his son, Owen Barker of Allendale; stepdaughter, Brenda Bruce of Greenville; nine grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren. Mr. Barker was predeceased by his sons, J.A. Barker Jr. and Vernon R. Barker.
