ALLENDALE - Services for James Archie Barker Sr., 101, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Smith-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in Mt. Arnon Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Mr. Barker, widower of Mae Weathers Barker, died early Saturday morning in the Southern Manor Nursing Center in Barnwell. Born April 4, 1899 in Seigling, he was a son of the late William Owen Barker and Ida Strange Barker. Mr. Barker was a member of First Baptist Church of Allendale where he served as a deacon. He was a farmer. He was a former member of the Hospital Board and the Soil Conservation Board. Mr. Barker was first married to the late Maude King Barker.
Surviving are his son, Owen Barker of Allendale; stepdaughter, Brenda Bruce of Greenville; nine grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren. Mr. Barker was predeceased by his sons, J.A. Barker Jr. and Vernon R. Barker.
