Mr. Goss was born in Wetumpka, AL and was a son of the late Benjamin (Dewey) and Lula Harrison Goss. He was preceded in death by his foster son, John E. McElrath. He was the former owner of Quality Upholstery in Asheville and was a member of Reeves Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent.
Mr. Goss was a kind and loving husband and father, a gentle soul and a generous friend to all who knew him as well as being a master craftsman, musician and talented artist.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Ann McElrath Goss; and was the beloved father of one stepdaughter Kathy Ballard and her husband Terry of Asheville. He is also survived by one stepson, Steve Hendrix, of Castle Hayne, NC; two sisters, Runell Nelson of Prattville, AL and Sara Glenn and her husband Orville of Iuka, MI; and one brother Robert Goss and his wife Joan of Dothan, AL.
