Cynthia (Cyndi) Kay Broekemeier, 55, of Fargo, ND passed Friday, January 29, 2016 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center surrounded by her family. Cynthia Kay Broekemeier was born August 16, 1960, the daughter of Leland and Dorthy Palm in Warren, MN. Raised in Warren, MN, she graduated from Warren High School the class of 1979. After high school, Cyndi pursued a career in cosmetology studying at Hair Designers Academy in Grand Forks, ND. Cyndi was a busy body, constantly reinventing herself in her careers and hobbies! For 35 years, Cyndi made her career in cosmetology. Cyndi excelled in hair, nails, skin care and her biggest passion, permanent make-up. Cyndi was an exceptional cook and baker. She loved to create new recipes and collect unique kitchen gadgets. She enjoyed hosting her family and friends for meals, especially on Holidays. Cyndi was a self proclaimed "foodie" and "wino." Her love of food led her to start her own specialty food business, Red River Gourmet. It was here that she created her infamous Jalapeno Relish that is beloved and treasured by her family. Being voted "Most Artistic" in high school, Cyndi lived up to that title! She loved to create and express her personality through her art and various crafts. Cyndi enjoyed to paint, wood work, create one-of-a-kind stained glass pieces, restore antique dolls and card her antique buttons to name a few. She also had a passion for collecting antiques and researching her family history through genealogy. Cyndi was also a proud member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Cyndi was united in marriage to William Broekemeier on November 25, 2000, recently celebrating their 15-year wedding anniversary. Cyndi and Bill shared a love for creating and collecting. Over the years they remodeled several homes together, customizing the spaces to fit their personalities. Throughout her life, Cyndi had to fight through many obstacles with her health. These challenges never broke her spirit or deterred her from enjoying all that she loved in life. Cyndi was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, auntie and friend who touched many lives. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all. Cyndi is survived by her husband, Bill; sons, Toby Stauss (Kate Grogan), Boise, Idaho, Cain (Stephanie) Stauss, East Grand Forks, MN, daughter, Abby Stauss (Ben Kippen), Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Mason and Lillian Stauss, East Grand Forks, MN; mother, Dorthy Palm, Warren, MN; 5 brothers: Kenneth (Jennifer) Palm, Warren, MN, Duane (Susan) Palm, Colstrip, MT, Douglas (Julie) Palm, Eagle River, AK, Lyle (Maria) Palm, Timothy (Patti) Palm, San Diego, CA; sister, Claudia (Remi) Brooke, Grand Forks, ND; sisters-in-law: Terry (Jeff) McMaines, East Grand Forks, MN, Brenda Rysavy, Bismarck, ND, Linda (Jim) Weber, East Grand Forks, MN; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Leland Palm; father- and mother-in-law, William and Arlene Broekemeier; brothers-in-law: Darrell Fore, and Don Rysavy Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 4th, 2016, followed by a 7 p.m. Prayer Service at the West Funeral Home in West Fargo. The Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the West Funeral Home in West Fargo.
