Joe Abreu was a baseball player who played 2nd and 3rd base for the Cincinnati Reds in 1942.

Joe was born to Mary (Ornellis) and Joseph Abreu. He had at least nine siblings, Manuel, Julia, Albert, Abel, Alfred, George, Aldora and Paul.

Mary and Joseph, along with the two oldest children, Manuel and Julia immigrated to America from Portugal about 1906. The family is recorded in census records as living in Oakland, California with the 1920 having them in Castoria, San Joaquin County. In the 1940 Census his occupation is listed as a professional ballplayer; the words "Fort Worth" also appear, but they are crossed out, perhaps he played there in the minor leagues.

From the virtual flowers I've learned that he entered the Navy in 1942. It is unclear if he went off to war or if he played baseball in the Army and Navy League in California. He was released from the service in 1946. At least four of his brothers also entered the service.
