The son of John S. & Mary Ann (Lawton) Myers, in 1860 he was a laborer living in Greene Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 4" tall and had dark hair and hazel eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he served two terms of service:
1. Enlisted as a substitute in Chambersburg October 16, 1862, giving his correct age, which means he almost certainly had parental permission to serve. He mustered into federal service at Chambersburg November 4 as a private with Co. A, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and promoted to corporal to date January 3, 1863. He honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, in Gettysburg.
2. Enlisted in Chambersburg February 1, 1864, mustered into federal service there February 4 as a private with Co. L, 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry (182nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his company July 8, 1865.

He married Alice M. Brown in 1884 and fathered Lawton (b. @1885) and Nell M. (b. 05/02/87 - married Clyde S. Reddig). Cause of his death is listed as "influenza."
