Carrie Ora Stephenson (daughter of William Harold Stephenson and Henrietta Glass) was born in Goolesboro, Texas and married Sitman Grady Carruth on August 21, 1938 in Fisher County, Texas. She graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1924 (suma cum lauide) and taught school for 37 years. They moved around a lot and finally settled in Port Arthur, Texas in 1943. They stayed there the remainder of their lives. Both were active in many organizations. They had no children of their own but raised her niece, Malinda Stephenson, from age 12. They were members of the Baptist Church. He was a lawyer and died May 18, 1984 in Jefferson County, Texas. They had no children.
