GLOUCESTER - Marion Frederick "Fred" Crosby, 81, died Monday, February 15, 2016. Born in Lynchburg, VA, he was raised in Hampton. He served in the US Army, retiring as a Master Sergeant after 28 ½ years of service, then went to work for the Department of the Navy at the Pentagon retiring in 1999 after which he moved to Gloucester. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1504, Laurel, MD, enjoyed being outside, and loved his dogs as if they were his children. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, James Frederick and Mary Lois Crosby and his siblings, Charles Crosby, Mary Phyllis Snelson, Leonard Wray Crosby, James Patrick Crosby and Audrey Lane Crosby. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Crosby; his sister, Doris Ann Herron; his brother, William L. Crosby; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 19, 2016 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by Rev. John Randall. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30pm Thursday at the funeral home.
