Ruth Bernetta (Vaughn) Finney was born in Nicodemus, Kansas on April 19, 1926 to the union of Charles S. Vaughn and Clementine (Napue) Vaughn. She was the seventh child of nine children.

Her parents, brothers; Norval Serene, Charles Thaddeus and John William; sisters: Odella Marie, Alice Rodena, Margaret Elizabeth and Velva Arlene preceded her in death.

Ruth was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church in Nicodemus, Kansas. She attended elementary school, District #1, Graham County Kansas and graduated from Bogue High School in Bogue, Kansas. After graduating, Ruth moved to Topeka, Kansas in 1945 and attended Clark Business School.

Ruth was united in Holy Matrimony to Maceo A. Finney, April 1, 1947. Maceo preceded her in death on April 11, 1975.

She was employed by Kansas State Board of Nursing for over 30 years, retiring October, 1991. Ruth joined Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. F.O. Webb, Rev. R.C. Higgs, Rev. J. Owens and lastly Rev. W.L. Templeton. She was a devoted and loyal member for over 50 years. She served in many capacities: Church Secretary, Usher Board, Sunday School and Bible Class Teacher, B.T.U., Lydia Missionary Circle, Wedding Planner/Coordinator, Church Nursery, Social Committee and Choir Director. She would work wherever she was needed.

Ruth moved to Chicago, Illinois in May 2003 to live with her niece, Darlene Collins and family. She was active in The Red Hatters and Evergreen Park Mall Walkers. She enjoyed shopping and had a love for fashion. Her hats and shoes were unforgettable. In Watch Ruth joined Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois under the protection of Rev. J.L. Tillman, Pastor. Ruth made her transition into eternity Tuesday, February 5, 2016 at Little Company on Mary Hospice. Her footsteps will leave everlasting memories to all who knew and loved her.

Ruth leaves to cherish her devoted sister, Lee Anna McMurray, Pasadena, CA; brother-in-law, William (Linda) Finney, St Paul, MN; nieces: Leta Janice Ross, Altadena, CA; Zetta Gholar, Adalanto, CA; Darlene Collins, Chicago, Ill, Nephews; Wayman (Helen) Williams, Las Vegas, NV; Rolland Williams, Hot Springs Village AR; Richard (Debra) Moore, Houston, TX; Stephen (Diane) Moore Chicago, Il and William Moore, Topeka, KS.( Loving memory: Arlene Williams, Odella Moore, Leo Williams and Robert Vaughn).

Services: Graveside service and final resting place, Saturday, February 20, 2016, 3:00 P.M. Officiating Rev. Joseph Fisher Sr., Rev. Nicole Anderson, and Dr. LaTia Collins, Topeka Cemetery, 1610 E 10th. Visitation, Friday, February 19, 2016, 4-8 P.M. at Bowser Johnson Funeral Chapel, 723 SW 6th Ave. A repast immediately after the service at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church.
