When Ronald Weikum Backhus was born on May 24, 1932, in Maywood, Illinois, his father, Charles, was 28 and his mother, Bernice, was 24. Ron attended Proviso High School and the University of Illinois in Champaign and was an Architect. He married Virginia Batterman on August 14, 1954, in Cook County, Illinois. Ron and Virginia had 5 children: Craig, Deb, Karl, Karen and Anna. Ron was an avid Musky Fisherman and frequently took the family to Rismon's Resort on Ballard Lake, near Star Lake, Wisconsin. He enjoyed Golf and was an ardent Chicago White Sox, Bears and Bulls fan. The family resided in Frankfort and Mokena, Illinois. He died suddenly while hospitalized for an infection on July 29, 1998, in Mokena, Illinois, at the age of 66.
