"Prof. George H. Bangs of Lima, who has for many years had charge of the music department of Genesee Wesleyan seminary, died Dec. 27th of malarial fever, from which he had been suffering for six weeks. He was a superior musician and musical instructor, and an estimable man." (The Dansville Advertiser of Livingston County, NY, 2 January 1879)

"Prof. George H. Bangs, of the Genesee Wesleyan seminary, Lima, is dead. He was well known throughout the State as a musical instructor. He was for ten years professor of music at Lima." (The Ovid Independent of Yates County, NY, 8 January 1879)

George married Mrs. Emma (Blake) Childs on 13 September 1868 at Cook County, Illinois according to Cook County marriage records. Emma had two children from a previous marriage; Elizabeth and Frank Childs.
