Lila Mae Carpenter, 91, of Jenison, formerly of Ellsworth, passed away April 22, 2004, at her home.

She was born June 25, 1912, in Central Lake, the daughter of Robert and Nettie (Vance) Watson.

On Dec. 19, 1936, she married Nathan Carpenter in Traverse City. They lived on their farm in Banks Township until 1996, when she moved to Jenison. Nathan preceded her in death in 1992.

Lila was a homemaker and helpmate for her husband on the farm. She also worked at the Ellsworth Canning Factory for many years.

She was active in the 4-H program.

Her greatest joy was her family, especially the little ones and babies.

She was a member of the Eastport Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Jacqueline and Hank Beagle, of Cadillac, Judith Osterbaan of Grandville, and Nathan R. "Bob" and Betty Carpenter of Jenison; grandchildren, Cheryl Medlin and Frank Moore, of Lebanon, Ill., Charles Lee and Debbie Medlin of Cameron, N.C., Larry and Beth Osterbaan of Hudsonville, Marilyn and Todd Anderson of Hudsonville, Daniel and Lisa Osterbaan of Canton, Mark and Suzanne Carpenter of Pensacola, Fla., Brad Carpenter of Jenison, and Mike and Kristin Carpenter of Grays Lake, lll.; 12 great-grandchildren; her siblings, twin Lula Asquith, Avabelle Carpenter, Ken and Jackie Watson and Doris Danielson; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Ivan Watson, and sister, Lucille Peebles.
