Stella Mae Rathbone
May 19, 1927 - February 19, 2016
Obituary from Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home:
Stella M. Rathbone, 88, a longtime resident of Hampton, departed this life to eternity on February 19, 2016. Born on May 19, 1927 in Clyde, N.C., Stella was an avid gardener, with a special love for her flowers, a creator of some of the best southern comfort food to ever be consumed, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Stella was saved by Grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ On March 24, 1957, and continued faithful in her service to the Lord until her last breath. Because of the unfailing promises of God and the resurrection of Jesus, we are confident that her eternal days of rejoicing and worshipping the Lord have indeed begun.
Preceding her in death are parents, Hayden and Bobbi Rector; husband, RL Rathbone; and sons, James Harold Rathbone, and Phillip Michael Rathbone. Stella leaves to cherish her memory: Keith (Cathy), David (Carla), and Jeff (Kim), 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many other extended family and friends. Those who visited, called, and used their time and energy to enrich her life especially during her final years were cherished and loved by her. Her life was lengthened and improved by the exceptional care of Dr. Shonna Johnson of Elizabeth Lakes Family Care and Dr. Mashour Yousef of Peninsula Cancer Institute, for which we are all grateful.
A Celebration of Life service will be held February 27, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Parklawn-Wood Funeral Chapel, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Virginia 23666. A graveside service will follow at the adjoining cemetery. Pastor Dale Robertson will officiate.
The family requests any memorials be expressed to the Poquoson Baptist Church benevolence fund.
