He was chief of police from 1956 until his retirement from the force after 21 years of service, on Jan. 1, 1958. He had joined the force in 1937 and was a member of Fraternal Order of Police. He ws elected Delaware County Sheriff in 1958 adn served four years, but declined to run for a second term in 1962.
His wife, Mildred, died in June, 1962, after a lengthy illness. He was appointed City Court bailiff in 1963 and served as riding bailiff for Superior Court Judge Corbett McClellan in 1965.
A graduate of Central High School, he attended Indiana University, served with the Navy during World War II and was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Paul (Judith Ann) Beall, Rockford, Ill., and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Msgr. E.A. Schweier in charge. Burial will be in the mausoleum at Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meeks Mortuary from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and prior to services Saturday. The Rosary will be recited at the mortuary at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
