Curtis E. "Curt" Abshire, 71, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C. He touched many lives with his gentle and never-complaining demeanor and his sweet smile. Curt was preceded in death by his parents, Reva W. and James W. Abshire; brother, Herbert L. Abshire; sisters-in-law, Jean Abshire and Darlene Abshire; brothers-in-law, Clarence Shockley and Ernest Akers.Surviving are four sisters, Josie Shockley of McEwen, Tenn., Dorothy Shockley (Alonza) of Cookeville, Tenn., Joyce Akers of Roanoke, Va., and Bonnie Ballard (Ron) of Hardy, Va.; three brothers, James L. Abshire (Margaret) of Roanoke, Va., Robert Abshire (Daris) of Cottontown, Tenn., and Jackie L. Abshire of Christiansburg, Va. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Gardner officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice, 1477 Carrollton Pike, Hillsville, VA 24343.Special thanks to Sherri Porterfield and Becky Davis, Mt.
