Harry J. Finnerty, 86, of Cresco died Tuesday evening, Feb. 23, 2016, in Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late Margaret E. (Judge) Finnerty, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage at the time of her death on Jan. 24, 1997.

Born March 2, 1929, in Scranton, he was a son of the late Stephen C. and Loretta (Cadden) Finnerty and lived in Monroe County since 1965.

He was a 1947 graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

Harry was first employed for 12 years as a manager by Dun & Bradstreet in Philadelphia and then worked for Brown & Bigelow for 14 years. In 1975 he and his late wife established Finnerty Associates, a national and regional advertising and public relations agency that he continued to operate until his retirement on Dec. 31, 2015.

He was a pilot and former member of AOPA.

Earning his Eagle Scout at age 14 in Scranton, he served as an Eagle advisor for many years in Monroe County. He was a member of Evans-Blitz Post 922 American Legion in Canadensis and the Navy Old Crows Society in Washington, D.C.

Surviving are his longtime companion, Linda Ellis, at home; a daughter, Maureen Courtright and her husband, Brian, Pocono Summit; two grandsons, Luke Finnerty Courtright and Casey Finnerty Courtright; a sister, Kathryn E. Johnson, Clarks Summit; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph S. Finnerty, in 1994, and two brothers, Frank S. Finnerty and Leo J. Finnerty.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3, in Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, with Monsignor John Sempa as celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to a charity of one's choice or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
