Mrs. Covington, 63, Of Prospect, Dies Tuesday
Mrs. Hilda Abbitt Covington, 63, of Prospect, died this morning (Tuesday), Oct. 30, at the Southside Community Hospital in Farmville. Born in Appomattox County January 21, 1916, she is the daughter of Mrs. Geneva Turns Abbitt of Appomattox County and the late George F. Abbitt. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, George Covington; one son, Howard Julian Covington, both of Prospect; one daughter, Mrs. Eugenia C. Barr of Farmville; one brother, George Abbitt, Jr., of Pamplin; five sisters, Mrs. Jun Carol Adams and Mrs. Susie Lucy, both of Galesburg, Ill., Mrs. Betty Dickerson of Farmville, and Mrs. Mildred Gross and Mrs. Gertrude Ellington, both of Richmond; and one granddaughter, Miss Joette Barr. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Family Cemetery, Prospect. The Rev. Dorsey A. Howard will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville.
