Bette William Hendrickson Harrison, 93, of St. Marys passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta.
Mrs. Harrison was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Los Angeles and was the daughter of the late William Hendrickson Sr. and the late Ellen Hegstrom Hendrickson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Morgan Harrison; son-in-law, Kenneth King Brooks; sister, Helen Hendrickson Young; and half-brothers, William Hendrickson Jr. and Alfred Hendrickson.
Coming from Lancaster, Calif., she had moved to Camden County 27 years ago so she could have quality time with her only two grandchildren.
She was educated at Los Angeles High School and Hunter Business College and was a United States Navy WAVE, serving her country honorably during World War II. Mrs. Harrison was a member of Camden County Medical Center Auxiliary and did volunteer work with the Camden Medical Center Pink Ladies and Kings Bay American Red Cross.
She was a lifelong positive thinker who refused to have a negative thought; an avid sports fan who made a point of watching the Little League World Series every year; a long-standing Los Angeles Dodger season ticket holder; enjoyed studying maps, researching genealogy, trying new recipes, playing bridge and mahjong. She had a great appreciation for all "The Arts" and always said the best experience of her life was serving as a World War II Navy WAVE.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at King of Peace Episcopal Church with Rev. Al Crumpton officiating and with military honors. Mrs. Harrison will be laid to rest next to her husband at Joshua Memorial Park in Lancaster.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jane Brooks of St. Marys; two sons, William Edward Harrison of San Antonio, Texas, and James Thomas Harrison of St. Marys; granddaughter, Sara Jean Brooks of Orlando, Fla.; grandson, Ryan Lawrence Brooks of Tavares, Fla.; brother-in-law, Robert Harrison of Indio, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.
The family requests donations in memory of Bette Harrison be made to King of Peace Episcopal Church Priest Discretionary Fund, which is used to help people in need, at 6230 Laurel Island Parkway, Kingsland, GA 31548.
