March 7, 2016 - Rev. Mark Stelzer officiated at the service for Ashley Guindon. Pastor Stelzer is the son of a former Springfield police chief and noted the dangers police officers face every day.

"Those of us who grew up in a law enforcement family know firsthand the constant fear that any day of a loved one's duty as a police officer could be his or her last day of duty," he said. "Any day could spell the end of watch."

After the funeral service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Springfield, the hearse was escorted by police motorcycles as it made its way to the cemetery. Upon arrival, a Marine Corps. honor guard stood at attention for the former Marine reservist. Ashley Guindon's mortal remains were buried next to those of her father.

Ashley Guidon had attained the rank of Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. When she was assigned to Bolling Air Force Base, she was involved with sending home the remains of fallen Marines.

Ashley was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida with a bachelor's degree in aeronautics. She also received a master's degree in forensic science.

Ashley had worked previously in a funeral home and assisted in greeting and helping mourners. She would sometimes accompany a funeral director to the medical examiner's office.

She graduated from Merrimack High School in New Hampshire in 2005 and had held a license to fly historical aircraft.

Her love of flying was apparent, as she got to fly a helicopter while in the Marine Corps Reserves, and was involved in other aeronautical endeavors. She also assisted with the Mortuary Affairs Office, while serving our country.

During her free time, Ashley loved to dance, read and travel. While in high school she was on the cheer-leading team.

A total fashionista to her friends and family, Ashley also had a special fondness for her furry friend; "Scout," the family Pug.

Ashley's mom Sharon said that Ashley would call her all the time to check in on Scout, who lived in New Hampshire with Sharon. She also adored birds, and most all of God's creatures.

In addition, Ashley was always there for her community, volunteering with the Suicide Prevention Program, and helping at the soup kitchen on Thanksgiving, and other community activities where a helping hand was needed.

Prince William County, Virginia Police Officer Ashley Guindon, 28, was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance.

The male subject at the home murdered his wife, Crystal Sheree Hamilton, then ambushed the officers with a rifle as they approached the scene. Officer Guindon was fatally wounded and two other officers, including her training officer, were wounded.

The man who shot them was arrested at the scene.

Findagraver Anthony ID: 47193286 has stated that "She actually died at Inova Fairfax Hospital."

Officer Guindon had been sworn in the previous day and was working her first day on the street with her training officer.

She is the only child of her father, U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant David Gerard Guindon, Vietnam & Iraq War Veteran. David died of a gunshot wound less than 24 hours after returning home from Iraq.

Ashley was the adored daughter of Sharon Nowak Guindon and the late David Guindon. Cherished granddaughter of her paternal grandparents; Dorothy Guindon and the late C. Edward Guindon; as well as her maternal grandparents, the late Walter and Stella Nowak, Sr. Beloved niece of Deborah B'Shara (Richard), Christine Munzert (late Paul), Mark Guindon (Stephanie), Tom Guindon (Joanna), and Walter Nowak (Michele). Her uncle Peter Guindon predeceased her in 2007. Loving goddaughter and niece of Maryanne and David Scibelli. Also survived by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.
