Mary Lee Cavan Mary Lee Cavan, 80, Lacy, Wash., died Sunday at her home. Born March 31. 1920, in Elwood, she was the daughter of Howard and Ethel Peck Cavan. She graduated in 1938 from Elwood High School and in 1943 from Hanover College. She taught English and social studies in Indiana schools for five years. In 1955, she moved to New Jersey to work as a bookmobile librarian for the Sussex County Library in Newton. She was well-known for her radio program, "Library Lines as well as a weekly newspaper column, The Inside Story," and for her many book talks to various community organizations. She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers' Association, New Jersey Education Association, New Jersey School Media Association, American Library Association, National Education Association Sussex County Retired Teachers Association, Sussex County School Media Association and the American Association of University Women. In 1982, she received a Distinguished Service to Education Award from the Sussex County Education Association. In 1984, she was named Freedom Township's Senior Citizen of the Year. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Newton, N.J. A memorial service has been set for 2:30 p.m., June 25, at the Methodist Church in Newton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Dorothy E. Henry Library, 66 Route 94, Vernon, N.J. 07462. A memorial graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Elwood City Cemetery. Local arrangements are being handled by Copher & Fesler Funeral Home.
