James K. “Jim” Mettes, 73, of Shelbyville, MO, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016, at his home. He was born January 15, 1943, in Leonard, MO, the son of Wilbur and Esther (McDaniel) Mettes. He was united in marriage to Patsy Arment on October 21, 1961 in Clarence, MO. Jim worked as a farmer and sold Hubbard Feed. He served as Shelby County Commissioner for 10 years and worked at Farmers Elevator. Jim loved to go camping with his wife, watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. He had many friends and was very well liked in the community. Jim is survived by his wife, Patsy; his children, Penny Perrigo and her husband Robert of Leonard, MO, and Lance Mettes and his wife Melissa of Leonard, MO; six grandchildren, Cody Browning, Cody Perrigo, Dakota Mettes, Dalton Mettes, Dylan Mettes, and Dayton Mettes; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Street of New London, MO, and Sharon Elder of Hannibal, MO. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Yvonne Lindsey. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016, at 10:00 am at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. Burial will be in the Shelby Memorial. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Helping Hand, or Hospice Compassus.
