Charles Freeman Harvey was a steam fitter in Boston, Massachusetts and lived in or near there. Charles kept a journal when he took his family from New York to Galveston, Texas on a steamship. Then from Galveston to Indianola, Texas by steamship. Then from Indianola to Goliad by wagon (October 11, 1878 to October 31, 1878). The family lived near Goliad for ten years. They survived a severe hurricane in 1886 which wiped out Inianola and destroyed their home. He sold his land and moved north at the encouragement of his son George. The family move to Greer County, Texas in November of 1888, going by train. They were met at Vernon, Texas, by Charles'son George, who led them to Altus, after spending the night at Coan's Crossing on the Red River. They settled three miles north of Altus in Greer County, Texas. The Harvey's hired a Reid to work as a carpenter to build their new home and thus began the Harvey, Reid connection.
