GRACE E. BROWN

Miss Grace Elizabeth Brown, 73,
died May 3, 1948, in her home at
Bridgewater after a long illness.
She was born on a farm just
north of the village Mar 9, 1875,
a daughter of William H. and
Hannah Penny Brown. She was
educated in the local school and
was graduated from West Winfield
High School, and St. Margaret's
Finishing School, Waterbury,
Conn.

She was a member of the local
Congregational Church and its societies.
She served for many years
as superintendent of the Primary
Department of the Sunday School,
as organist in the church and
as a member of the choir. She was
a charter member of Unadilla
Valley Grange.

She was a member of and past
president of the Bridgewater
Woman's Art Club and secretary
of the club at the time of her
death.

She was a member of General
Winfield Scott Chapter, DAR and
had served as chapter registrar
and as a member of the genealogical
committee. She did much of
the research for several books
which were printed by the DAR
chapter. She was president of the
Cemetery Board, a member of the
Library Board and past chairman
of the local Red Cross board.
She came to her present home
in the village about 16 years ago
with her brother, the late Myron
Brown, and sister with whom she
made her home.

She leaves a sister, Mary Eliza
Brown; one niece, Mrs. Frank
Hibben, Albuquerque, N. M., and
one nephew, Dr. Charles Alfred
Brown, Birmingham, Ala.

The funeral will be at 3 p. m.
Friday from the Congregational
Church. The Rey. Carl H. Yettru
will officiate. Burial will be in
Fairview Cemetery.
