Dr. Barry W Allen DVM


Barry Allen, 90, of Old Glory, Texas, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016, in Haskell, Texas.


Services will be at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan, Texas. Burial will be at 3:00 pm, at the Hooker Cemetery, Old Glory, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, February 29, 2016.


Barry was born May 19, 1925, to Arnold and Dollie Allen in Rotan, Texas.


He graduated in 1942 from Rotan, Texas.


He attended John Tarleton College for three semesters, where he played football.


Barry was drafted into the United States Army and he served three years in the Pacific, participating in three major invasions. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart.


Barry returned to John Tarleton graduating in 1947. He then attended Texas A&M graduating in 1951 as a doctor of Veterinary medicine.


Barry owned Rotan Veterinary Hospital from 1952-1981. He worked for a veterinary supply company and as a veterinarian for Pet Smart until 2012.


He is preceded in death by his parents (Arnold and Dollie Allen), his wife (Marie Allen) and brother (Gordon Allen).


He is survived by his children; Susan and husband, Ken Foster of Rotan, Texas, Cathy Allen and husband, Jerry Edwards of Lubbock, Texas, Barry K. (Bub) Allen and wife, Amy of Rotan, Texas, step-son Gerald Ashbrook and wife, Pattie of Corpus, Christi, Texas; grandchildren, Lonnie Kelly and Colleen Harris of DeLeon, Texas, Tiffany Fowler and Dusty of Wildorado, Texas, Coby Allen of Lubbock, Texas, and Jennifer Pope of Austin, Texas; nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; sisters , Wanda Brown and Yvonne Scarbrough of Midland, Texas, Gail Rape and Paul of Graham, Texas; a brother, Eugene Allen of Weatherford, Texas. He is also survived by his dog Tippy.
