Obituary: John M. Mayers Logan County Newspaper

John M Mayers was born near Bellcenter August 30th 1855.

His father was Samuel Mayers. The mother, who's maiden name was Delilah Scott, was twice married. To these marriages were born 12 children, all of whom are now deceased.

On Sept. 27th,1882, Mr. Mayers and Florence J. Thompson were united in marriage. This proved a happy union. The children born to these parents were Ofrie Allen of Lakeview; Addie, deceased; Fred, of Huntsville; Helen Arbegast, of Lewistown; Martha Merriman of Phillipsburg. Six grandchildren and four great grandchildren remain.

This family and this community have had in the life of the deceased an example of exemplary citizenship. He was a good husband, father and neighbor. He was industrious, frugal and absolutely honest. He was morally clean and stood for all community interest that were for the betterment of society.

The demise of this man takes from this vicinity a sterling character. He became a member of the local Methodist Protestant church by letter from the Mckees Creek Christian church about 48 years ago. He supported his church loyally during this period of time. He was a living witness for his master.

Mr. Mayers throughout his life had been blessed with good health until the last year or so. The devoted wife and family cared for him tenderly until his spirit took flight Sept.14,1931, agent 76 years, 14 days.

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, doth not yet appear what we shall be; but we know that when He (Christ) shall appear we shall be like him; for we shall see him as He is. (I John 3:2)
