Nancy M Briggs-Petty was a daughter of Thomas Howard Briggs and Ann Kent. She was the wife of James Edmond Petty.

Nancy was first married to George Washington Long. George Washington Long was born in Butler County in 1835 and was killed in battle during the Civil War at Danville, Virginia on August 15, 1862.

The only child of Margaret and her marriage to George was Georgia Ann Long. Georgia married Stephen Franklin Gafford. (Both are buried at the Black Rock Cemetery)
