Actress. In 1903 she began her career on the stage in the play "As You Like It" followed by her part as Olivia in Shakespeare's the "Twelfth Night." Her performance as Olivia became what many felt was the best performance of her career. In 1906 she starred as Carlotta in "The Morals of Marcus" for which she received much attention, and in 1908 starred as Portia in Sir Herbert Tree's "The Merchant of Venice." She made her American debut in late 1908 performing in "The Mollusc" at the Garrick Theater in New York City. She returned to England in 1912 and appeared before an audience that included King George V in the production "Money." Over the next decade she continued acting both in England and America, and after her last performance in "The Fool" in 1924 retired from acting. She became restless and decided to return to acting and did so in 1932 appearing on stage in "Criminal at Large" at the Belasco Theater in New York City, however during the play she suffered a heart attack causing her to leave the production. Over the next two years she recuperated and in 1934 appeared in her last production "Oliver." Two years later she suffered another heart attack which was fatal. In 1932 she received the gold medal for good diction on the stage by the American Academy of Art and Letters. Her most notable roles were in "Twelfth Night", "The Tides of Fate" in 1917 and "Half a Sinner" produced in 1934. She created what was then a sensation in 1920 when as the sole woman in the Massachusetts delegation to the Republican National Convention in Chicago she gave a speech seconding the nomination of Calvin Coolidge for President. She married on four occasions in order, Victor Herbert Miller, Joseph Coyne, Dr. Albert Pfeiffer. and J. Elliott Jenkins.
