A.J. Newton, age 82, of Thrifty, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 in a local nursing home.
Anderson J. Newton Jr. was born June 10, 1933 in Brown County, Texas to Anderson J. and Etta Davis Newton. He served in the United States Air Force. A. J. joined the First Christian Church in Brownwood at a young age and later had attended the First Baptist Church in Bangs. For many years he owned and operated Newton Well Service and had also farmed and ranched. After retirement, A.J. enjoyed being a greeter at Walmart where he met many people and made a lot of friends. He was a lifetime resident of Brown County and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his children Terry Newton and wife Diane of Bangs, Texas, Brent Newton and wife Pennie of Bangs, Texas, Mark Newton and wife Sheila of Electra, Texas and Cindy Shaw and husband Joe of Brownwood, Texas; grandchildren Cody Newton, Chad and Haley Newton, Cristen and Jim Blackwell, Shan and Rhea Newton, Carly and Aaron Bill, Britney and Kyle Hardin, Jason and Brittany Newton and Jeremy Newton; great grandchildren Joey and Kylee Newton, Taylor and Kam Hardin, Reid Newton, Avery and Conner Newton and Karter Blackwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Coleta Newton and sisters Felisha Salter, Nada Austin and Helen Wilson.
