John and his beloved wife, Marie-Rosetta met as teenagers in Orange commencing their life long journey, 60 years of marriage, and love story befitting a Hollywood script. John and Marie raised their family in West Orange before relocating to Cedar Grove several years ago.
Religious in his unselfish loyalty to surviving wife Marie, John is also survived by his two children for whom he knew only blind love, Theresa Marie Grieco of Dover, NJ and John F. Balestriere of Newport Beach CA.
Uncle Johnny, as he was so affectionately known by his host of nieces and nephews is also survived by his only grandchild and sparkle of his eye, Luke Martin Balestriere, who he simply adored.
The youngest boy of 9 children, John's brother Gene; sisters, Marie, Lucille, Betty and a cast of many, many loyal nieces and nephews will carry on Uncle Johnny's faith, and love of family legacy.
As at home under the hood of a car as he was on the couch - Military Channel booming, John served proudly in the United States Army overseas during the Korean War. If you paid a visit to talk cars or World War II with Uncle Johnny you'd better have two things in hand: your facts, and several hours to burn because brevity and Uncle Johnny had never met.
He was a groundskeeper at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Archdiocese of Newark, John retired in 1992.
