He married Allene Meadows in May 1941. They moved to Gerber, California where Roy was hired by the Southern Pacific railroad. He joined the Army in June 1944 and served in the 7th Armored Division in Europe.
In November 1945 he was discharged and returned to work with Southern Pacific in Dunsmuir. He worked in various positions, retiring as an engineer in 1980.
Roy and Allene lived in Dunsmuir from 1946 to 1983 where they raised 5 children; 2 boys and 3 girls. They were active in the Dunsmuir Church of Christ. Their faith was always an important part of their lives.
Allene passed away in February 1983.
Roy then moved to Redding where he met Darlene Keppler. They were married in 2003. Roy and Darlene were able to stay active with travel, church and social activities. They were members of the Redding Christian Fellowship. They moved to Lavender Hills Assisted Living where Roy passed away on February 27, 2016. He was 96 years old.
Roy is survived by his wife Darlene of Redding, sister Ruby Wood of DeSoto, Missouri, sons Gerald (Ginnie) of Rushville, Indiana, Richard (Millie) of Denver, Colorado, daughters Ellie (Larry) of Anderson, Marcia (Ken) of Redding, and Gail of Redding, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Roy was a kind and generous man who was loved by his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed.
