Elwood Leroy Murphy was born on December 1, 1917 to David Francis Murphy and Sybilla Tompkins Murphy. He had 2 older siblings, Karl Murphy and David Murphy. They were raised in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. It was there that he met and married Marie Ridge.
On January 1, 1942 Elwood and Marie had their only child - a daughter Karen Lee Murphy.
Elwood served in the Armed Forces where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
Elwood and Marie later divorced and he moved to Texas where he met and married Clara Wynona Parnell. He and Clara raised her daughter Nawatha "Mickie".
It was there in Texas that he passed away on October 23, 1969.
