Jack Baker, age 71, of Bellingham, died November 10, 1994. He was born August 31, 1923 in Arlington, WA to Cecil and Grace Whitcomb Baker. The family moved to Bellingham in 1925. Jack graduated from Bellingham High School in 1941 and attended Western Washington College until enlisting in the US Navy in WWII, where he served four years, mostly in the South Pacific.

Jack married Irene Chetwood on November 19, 1947.

Jack served the Bellingham Fire Department for 31 years, the last 12 years as Fire Chief, retiring in 1978. During this time he started the Paramedic and Emergency Ambulance service for the City/County.

He served as Harbor Master of the Port of Bellingham for 12 years. He was Past President of local Fire Fighters Union; Past Vice-President of Washington State Assn; Past President of Bellingham Central Lions; past President of Lake Padden Men's Club; member of Birchwood Presbyterian Church.

Jack was an enthusiastic sports participant. He played on the Bellingham Fircrest Basketball team, fast pitch, slow pitch, bowling and golf.

He is survived by his wife Irene; son Chet Baker, his wife Janell and their sons Brian and Andy of Coupeville, WA; son Tim Baker, his wife Pat and their sons Jack and Dan of Longview, WA; daughter Jean Frazier, her husband Jack and their children Bryan, Molly and Tom of Bellingham; brother Wesley and wife Merle Baker of Wilsonville, OR; sister Bertha Sharrett of Seattle; brother Roy and wife Beryl Baker of Vancouver, WA; sister Carol Stavropoulous of Simi Valley, CA; sister Gertrude and husband Robert Rabung of Chandler, AZ; sister-in-law Pauline Barbo of Bellingham; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brother Gordon who was killed in a Coast Guard plane crash in Iceland in 1952.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 9-5 and Wednesday 9-11 at Westford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 16, 1 pm at Geneva Community Church, Rev. Grant Whipple and Rev. Tim Lann officiating.

Memorials may be made to Medic I; The Firs Bible and Missionary Conference, or Birchwood Church Building Fund.
