Florence M. Carty, 76, of 251 Fifth Ave., Manistee, died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in Free Soil at the home of her daughter.
She was born June 26, 1922 in Manistee, the daughter of Fred and Dorothy (James) Berklund. She was a graduate of Onekama High School. She married William G. Carty on February 6, 1943 in Washington, Pa. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1986.
Flo had worked for many years as manager of the former Waters Shoe Store in Manistee; she also worked for many years at the Manistee Eagles Lodge. She was a member of Manistee United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Manistee Eagles Auxiliary and the Portage Chapter No. 280, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by: her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond "Skip" and Loree Carty of Manistee; her daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl-lene and Larry Mitchell of Free Soil; grandchildren, Connie Turner of Smyrna, Tenn., Ann Bergren of Manistee, and Tricia and Jeff Lewis of Bloomfield Hills; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jenner Turner, Shane Bergren and Hannah Lewis; brother and sister-in-law, Keven and Arlene Berklund of Manistee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by: her parents; a great-granddaughter, Haley Elizabeth Lewis; and her sister, Gladys Willis.
Funeral services for Florence Carty will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 18 at the Johnson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell Garrigus officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
