Author and Editor. Maureen Daly was born in Castlecaufield, County Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland. She later became a naturalized U.S. citizen. Daly's parents were Joseph Desmond Daly and Margaret Daly. She was married to a fellow writer, William McGivern, in 1946. They had one daughter, Megan, and one son, Patrick. Daly has been credited with launching modern young adult literature with her novel "Seventeenth Summer", written in 1942. It has sold more than 1.5 millions copies. Other works attributed to her are "Sixteen and Other Stories" written in 1961 and "The Ginger Horse" in 1964. She also co-authored a book with her late husband, William McGivern, in 1958 entitled "Mention My Name in Mombassa". Daly also served numerous roles in the world of periodicals as a reporter/columnist for the Chicago Tribune - New York syndication, the Associate Editor of Ladies Home Journal, and a Restaurant Writer for the Palm Springs Desert Sun. She died in Palm Desert, California.
