Jimmy grew up in Jay and Salina, attending elementary and secondary schools, including Salina High School, basic administration school during Vietnam, Bacon College in Muskogee, and Metropolitan College in Tulsa. Jimmy had been an ambulance attendant for Pryor Ambulance Service, and had worked for Tahlequah City Hospital in the Emergency Room.
He also had been employed with the U.S. Post Office of Pawhuska, and the Tahlequah Post Office. His other employment included Midwestern Nursery of Tahlequah, Tyson Foods of Rogers, Ark., PMI of Bentonville, Ark., and Whirlpool of Tulsa.
Jimmy had served in Vietnam in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant from 1970-1973, 1st Marine Division, Rein, at Camp Pendleton, Calif. His awards included the Meritorious Unit Citation with one star, National Defuse Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with Combat "V," Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60. Jimmy was a member of the American Legion Post 135 in Tahlequah.
Survived by his wife; four children; brother; seven sisters and brothers-in-law.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ned and Ida James; sister, Sandy James; and brother, Kenneth James.
Jimmy will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and loved ones.
Services for Jimmy James, 56, of Tahlequah, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, in the Green Country Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. D.J. McCarter.
Interment will follow in the Grass Cemetery in Salina, with Rev. Clarence Kingfisher officiating.
