Mrs. Myrtle Webb Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. Myrtle Webb died at her home here last Sunday, March 15, 1947, after several years of invalidism during which time she suffered much. Death resulted from complications from a goiter which had afflicted her for many years. Two falls added to her troubles: one in 1943 in her home resulted in a fractured hip and the second one was about two years later.
Mrs. Webb's maiden name was Myrtle Lois Nelson. She was the only child of William and Rose Cokeley Nelson and was born at Grant, Ark., December 24, 1889. Her age at death was 57 years, two months and 21 days. On May 22, 1912, she was united in marriage to William W. Webb. One son was born to this union, Nelson K. Webb of the home.
Her father preceded her in death twelve years ago and her mother ten years ago. The family was one of Neosho township's most prominent before moving to LeRoy city. Following the death of her parents, Myrtle kept her home so that Nelson would always have a place to come back to, either from his service in the Navy during the recent war, or from his work with the bridge department of the Missouri Pacific, his present employment. Also, Mrs. Webb took in transient visitors to LeRoy, maintaining a room or two for that purpose, and all spoke highly of her attention to their comfort.
As a young woman she qualified as a teacher and ranked high in that profession in Coffey county. She was a sincere Christian and followed the teachings of her Master in her daily life. She was a member of the LeRoy Rebekah lodge.
During the years of her illness she has always been a patient sufferer and ready with a cheerful word for her acquaintances. The son mentioned above and other more distant relatives and many friends mourn her passing.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Christian Church in charge of Dr. Dunach MacFarlane. Mrs. F. M. Gillespie and Mrs. Tony Roppolo sang "The City Four Square," "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "Ivory Palaces." Mrs. Geo. Murphy was the accompanist. Pallbearers were Noah Briles, E. L. Flake, Homer Linebaugh, Leo Mahaffy, George Manson and Mahlon Monson. Interment was in the LeRoy cemetery.
