Hazel was born on November 16, 1928 in the town of Gale in Trempealeau County to George (Tjeerd Durk) and Renske Marie (DeGroot) Oedsma. Hazel graduated from Galesville High School in 1946. She then attended the State Teachers College in La Crosse and received her diploma in Rural Education in 1948. In 1954, she completed her formal education at Wisconsin State College of La Crosse, and received her Degree of Bachelor of Science (Elementary Education) and later taught in both rural and city schools. Grace married Floyd Gale Richardson at the Presbyterian Church in Galesville on August 11, 1956. They lived together in both La Crosse and Holmen. They were blessed with two sons; Richard John and Robert James. Hazel enjoyed quilting, needlework, sewing and researching family genealogy. Because of being deaf in later years she especially treasured her written correspondence.
Hazel is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Floyd; her two sons: Richard John, and Robert James (Lisa); two grandchildren: Richard John Jr., and Jennifer Marie Richardson; a great grandchild; sister Kathleen (Gil) Machin; and her brother Stanley (Sharon) Oedsma.
She was preceded by her parents; her sister Beatrice Balmer and her brother’s, John and Ted Oedsma.
Burial in the Pine Cliff Cemetery in Galesville.
