Mrs. Charlotte Anne (King) Atkinson, age 92, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.

Mrs. Atkinson was born in Ambler, PA on November 27, 1923, daughter of the late Carlton Washington King and Margaret (Walker) King. She was a graduate of John Bassett High School in Smyrna. Mrs. Atkinson shared 60 years of marriage with her husband, Alfred Francis Atkinson, and together the couple raised three children at their beloved home, Green Springs Farm. In addition to caring for her family, she worked for many years as a sales clerk at W.D. Hatton Jewelers.

Mrs. Atkinson was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 30 years, sang in the Chancel Choir for over 50 years and also served as president of the United Methodist Women for 8 years. Active in her community, she gave of her time by serving as a Girl Scout leader for 6 years. Mrs. Atkinson also volunteered as a hostess for the ever popular Christmas in Odessa tours each season. She was a longtime member of the MOT Senior Center.

In her leisure time, Mrs. Atkinson enjoyed gardening, canning and baking and was well known for her famous chocolate chip cookies. She also liked completing crossword puzzles, reading and singing. She adored spending time with her loved ones and especially looked forward to vacationing with her entire family in Fenwick Island each year. Mrs. Atkinson will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, as a woman of grace, and for her everlasting legacy of love and kindness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; brothers, Morris W. King and Carlton W. King, Jr.; and grandson, Kendall W. Reed. Mrs. Atkinson is survived by her children, Alice A. Smith and husband, Harvey of Odessa, George B. Atkinson and wife, Julie of Middletown and Charlotte A. Miller and husband, Ronnie of Earleville, MD; grandchildren, Bryan D. Reed and wife, Jennifer of Middletown, Major Harvey C. "Trey" Smith III (USA) and wife, Elizabeth of Andrews AFB, MD and Matthew C. Smith and wife, Sandi of Middletown; and great grandchildren, Jared D. and Brianna L. Reed and Katelyn A., Craig M. and Allison E. Smith.

Friends may call from 6 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday evening, March 15, 2016 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 406 Main Street, Odessa, DE. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday morning, March 16, 2016, at the church. Interment will follow in Old Drawyers Cemetery, Odessa., Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Atkinson's memory may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 253, Odessa, DE 19730-0253.
