Jean Cannon Willis, mother, great-grandmother, age 84 passed away November 28, 2001, at her home peacefully of natural causes.

Born June 17, 1917 in Salt Lake City, UT to George J. and Lucy Grant Cannon, the fourth daughter. She attended Ensign Elementary,

Bryant Jr. High and East High School, graduating from BYU with a home economics degree. She taught at Woodward Jr. High in St. George, UT for two years. On March 13, 1941 she married Bertram T. Willis in the Salt Lake Temple. He died January 8, 1997. Their first home was Cheyenne Wyoming where Bertram was stationed until he was sent overseas during World War II. Jean returned to Salt Lake where she continued her lifelong work of service to others. She worked in the PTA. She was a volunteer at the Juvenile Detention Home, for over 15 years. She received The Epilepsy Foundation of America's Outstanding Volunteer for the countless hours she spent in the public schools helping children accept their peers who had epilepsy. After her children had all graduated from school she began tutoring language challenged students at Edison Elementary and later added a night ESL tutoring session. She has been involved with the Utah Youth Village for many years. She held many church positions, including ward and stake Relief Society president, but she especially enjoyed Primary. Jean and Bertram served a mission at the Washington DC Temple 1982-83. She loved the arts having had season tickets to the Utah Symphony for over half a century.

Jean was a caretaker and a caregiver. She dispensed friendship and love to her family, friends and neighbors. If there was a need, Jean would be there, giving help and support as well as a loaf of her wheat bread or a couple of her famous bread sticks. Loving, generous, she truly cared for everyone and tried to lift others through service.

Jean and Bertram were the parents of eight children: Bertram Cannon Willis (Christine), Moorestown, NJ; Lou Jean Huber (Warren), Santa Rosa, CA; Francine Rich (deceased); Barbara Corry (Robert) Cedar City, UT; Rebecca Boren (Gary), Tooele, UT; Florence Farnsworth (David), Centerville, UT; David Cannon Willis (Peggy) Wausau, WI; and Mary Beth Bingham (John) Taylorsville, UT. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Rachael Heninger, Lucy Taylor, George I Cannon, H. Stanley Cannon; son-in-law Kent Rich (Judy) Salt Lake City; 31 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
