Thomas F. “Tom” Adams, 94, passed away on November 11, 2018.
Tom was born in Tobinsport, son of the late Frank and Zylpha (Weatherholt) Adams. He was raised in Tobinsport along with his siblings, Clifford Adams, Jane Polk, Faye Weaver, Martha LaFollete, Mary Whitmore and John Kenneth Adams who have preceded him in death.
A United States Navy veteran, Tom was a graduate of Cannelton High School, earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Evansville and a
Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University.
Tom married Edith Suddarth on February 12, 1949 and celebrated 65 years of marriage. She preceded him in death in 2014. His daughter, Mary Alice Nichols also preceded in death.
He taught elementary school for 41 years, starting his career in Rome, Tobinsport and Vanderburgh County before spending the majority of his teaching days, until his retirement, at Tell City-Troy Township School Corporation. During the summer months, Tom worked for the U.S. Forest Service where he was a former director of the Youth Conservation Corp.
Tom was a member of Clayton Harris Memorial United Methodist Church, Rome Masonic Lodge #133 (where he had been Past Master), Order of Eastern Star #272 (where he had been Worthy Patron), Tell City American Legion #213, Perry County Retired Teacher’s, Indiana Retired Teacher’s Association (ISTA) and was a charter member of the original Optimist Club in Tell City.
Surviving are his son, Dan Adams, his wife Donna and their children, Isabelle Mosby (Shane) and Danielle Adams; daughter, Annetta Jones, her husband, John and their children, Sloan Jones and Dax Jones and a granddaughter, Nikki Scott (Nick), brother, Paul Adams.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Lamb Cemetery in Tobinsport where there will be military rites. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday and from 9:00 until 11:00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. There will be an Order of Eastern Star memorial service at 6:45 PM on Wednesday followed by a memorial service conducted by Rome Masonic Lodge.
Memorial contributions may be made to Clayton Harris Memorial United Methodist Church and Tobinsport Cemetery Association
