9/28/1925-2/15/2016

William “Bill” Thomas Bakker passed away on February 15, 2016 at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford Oregon at the age of 90. Bill was born in Yakama Washington on September 28, 1925 to Lola (Lavin) and William Bakker.
The family moved to Berkeley Calif. around 1930. During his high school years, Bill worked at the Berkeley Yacht Harbor and was a member of the Sea Scouts. In 1943 Bill joined the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of Quartermaster 3rd. Class. He was fond of telling people that it was his job to wind all of the clocks aboard the ship. Bill was honorably discharged in 1946. After a few years studying at UC Berkeley Bill joined the Berkeley Police Department as a patrol officer. Shortly after joining the department, Bill met the love of his life, Miss Myrtle E. Fuller. They were married in 1953. In 1956 their son, Scott, was born. Shortly after that Bill left the Police Dept. and joined the California Fish and Game as a game warden. The family moved to Booneville, Calif. where Bill would start his Fish and Game career. Bill was transferred to Foresthill Calif. in 1969. It was in Foresthill that Bill remained for the rest of his career, retiring in 1984.
Bill was an accomplished artist. He loved work in water color and pencil. He was also a very talented wood worker, building entire wooden ship models from scratch. Bill had a deep love for sailing and flying. Later in life, around age 75, Bill took up motorcycle riding, which he grudgingly gave up in 2011 after an accident that left him with a broken leg. Bill's family and friends meant everything to him. Whether it was a barbecue or a trailer trip Bill was always the life of any gathering.
In 2011 his beloved wife, Myrtle, passed away. In 2015 Bill moved to Medford, Oregon to be near his son, Scott.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Richard, and best friend Ray Nilsson.
He is survived by his brother and his wife, son and his wife, grandsons and great grand children. He is also survived by nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be held at the New Auburn Cemetery.
