He was born on October 21, 1925 in Sterling Township, Vernon County to Errol and Edith (Gardner) Skildum. He was baptized and confirmed at the North West Prairie Lutheran Church. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1943. He planned to join the air force but his father died and he stayed and farmed until 1955. He went to Chicago where he attended the DeVry Technical School for electronics. He worked for Mandel Brothers in Chicago. He returned to the family farm and in December, 1964 he and his mother moved to Arizona. He worked for Motorola and later Westinghouse.
He moved to Chicago where he met Barbara Lockett. They were married on October 29, 1977 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, IA. They moved to rural Viroqua in October, 1981. Barbara died on April 16, 1983. For the past several years Keith would go to Huntington Beach, CA. and spend several months with his sister, Blanche along with his nieces, Kristen (Michael) Horne, Renee Johnston and her children, Matthew and Michelle Johnston.
Keith is survived by two sisters; Blanche (Don) Llorente of Huntington Beach, CA, Merna (Jim) Williston of Winston Salem, N.C., one brother; Russell Skildum of Rockford, IL., twin step-daughters; Denise Chudzik of River Grove, IL, and Donna (Michael) Flagler of Coppell, TX., step-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Maurice Skildum.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 17th, 2016 at the North West Prairie Lutheran Church with Pastor Susan Fox officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, March 16th, 2016 from 4-6 at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday from noon until the time of services. The family suggests memorials to the family for distribution to Keith’s favorite charities.
