Charles Lester Baugh of Bradford, former mayor of Normal (1968-1972), went home to be with the Lord at the age of 89 on Sunday (March 13, 2016) at Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru.

Charles was born June 27, 1926 in Dawson, the son of Lester and Clara Barrow Baugh. He married Byrdena Schuneman on Feb. 9, 2008. She survives.

His parents, and one sister, Carol, preceded him in death.

Also surviving are his children, Sharon (Rob) Houchin, Gary (Rhonda) Baugh, Vicki (Ken) Griffin, David (Sally) Baugh, Charlene Johnson, Alisa (Ron) Tucker and Amanda Baugh; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two surviving sisters, Judy (Bud) Denton and Joanne (Harold) Bratt.

Having enlisted at the age of 17, Charles was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II as a fireman on a tank landing ship.

During the course of his long and varied career, he was a police officer, insurance sales manager, radio and TV announcer, original co-founder and coach of the Normal Mites Junior League football team and Normal city councilman.

Charles was an avid fisherman and hunter, as well as an auto racing enthusiast, and in his earlier years was a race announcer.
